The purpose of our club is to strengthen our students’ speaking skills in a way that honors Christ. Our name, Ascent, is based on the verses:
"Wise people walk the road that leads upward to life..." also translated “The Way of Life is an ascent…” - Proverbs 15:24
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:14
During our time on Fridays, we offer opportunities to learn and practice different types of speeches including Apologetics, as well as Lincoln Douglas and Parliamentary debate styles. In addition to our meetings (we meet about 2x per month during the school year), we participate in Stoa speech and debate league competitions.
The benefits of speech and debate are many! While students sharpen their communication and critical thinking skills, they also grow in character within a supportive Christian community. As a parent-led club, our Ascent parents have the privilege of learning alongside our students and offering them valuable feedback and encouragement. We also enjoy having our alumni visit to pour back into the students and families.
