Once upon a time there was a kid who got really into speech and debate world after learning about Team Policy. He dragged his mom along with him, little knowing that she would become the literally most hyper Stoa mom ever, trying to convince everyone around her to do Speech & Debate. It was only a matter of time before they started their own club. 5th and Below... and beyond!!

Speech Debate

We meet weekly in Centreville, VA on Mondays.

Many people have asked about our club name and what it means. The Bible often compares people to stars (Genesis 26:4, Daniel 12:3, Philippians 2:15). As we were planning to start a club in our area, we happened to be listening to a lot of Jacob Collier music. One song in particular never failed to get us dancing: "Box of Stars (Pt. 1)."

In the song, one of the artists sings "... living in a box of stars; just the whole, wide world with love in my heart." This captures the purpose of speech and debate for us. The world is like a box of stars--individuals that God has created. Every encounter we have with someone is an opportunity to communicate love to them as an individual. Speech and debate teaches us to reason well and discern truth, but also to speak love and grace to others in a way that they can comprehend.

Si el dolor es pesado, no pares
The rain came from heaven to harvestI promise you love is the oceanAnd I'm just a little droplet
