  This status is used while the tournament is still being setup.

• Open:

  This status means tournament registration is open. Families can register for the tournament.

• Drops Only:

  This status means only registration drops are allowed. There are no new entries allowed but families can drop entries.

• Closed:

  This status means registration is currently closed for the tournament. There are no adds or drops allowed. Please contact the tournament director with any questions.

• Completed:

  This status means the tournament is completed.

Arizona Christina University has blessed us with some amazing food options for our tournament.

Tower Grill:  Tower Grill is a restaurant located on their campus.  They sell breakfast breads, pastries and burritos, for lunch they have a variety of sandwhices.  Most importantly they will have coffee to help keep all the parents moving from round to round.  The Tower Grill be open from 8:00 am till 1 pm everyday of the tournament.

For Lunch: We will be offering box lunches that will be served in front of the campus cafeteria.  You will be able to preorder those box lunches when you register.  The cost for box lunches will be $15.21.

For Dinner:  Their Cafeteria will be open for all of us to enjoy daily.  The cost for dinner will be $17.83.  If you purchase online through the tournament website we will provide proof of purchase with a meal ticket.  If you do not purchase online you can still purchase at the door of the Cafeteria.  The Cafeteria will not allow or provide to go boxes.  

With dinner they have the following options:

                      Comfort Kitchen-usually a protein, starch and vegetable item
                       Cocina Especial-Burritos or bowls with protein filling, rice, beans and toppings.
                       Firestorm Grill-Hamburgers, sandwich of day plus a vegetarian option daily
                       Salad bar will be open and desserts will vary daily.

Script Submission Deadline:

Script Submission will open beginning Tuesday, February 18th  at 8:00 am MST. The deadline for electronic script submission is Tuesday, February 25th at 11:59 pm MST. This will give our script submission team time to review your scripts and enable you to make changes if they are necessary. No late script submissions will be accepted. If you have not submitted your script prior to the deadline, you will be dropped from the event.

Please go over the checklists with your coach or parent before submitting your script for proper citation of works used for your script. The current rules for script submission are listed on the Stoa Speech Citation Tips.

• Interpretive Scripts: All interpretive speeches will need to have the original source of the material photocopied and scanned (and sent together with your script). Uploading will go faster if the photocopies are scanned at the lowest resolution possible.

• Platform Speeches: Stoa does not require that you use any particular citations format. However, this is an excellent opportunity to learn MLA formatting. Purdue University has an excellent, easy to use, comprehensive website for teaching how to do this with all variety of source materials Purdue U MLA formatting website

• Another option is to use Easybib to help you prepare your citation page. Easybib.com

Incomplete or Incorrect Submissions
If your initial script submission is incomplete or incorrect, we will indicate what the problem is so it can be corrected and resubmitted for approval.  It is the responsibility of the student and the parent/coach to seek and follow the STOA guidelines for script and/or citations as referenced in Stoa Speech Citation Tips and make corrections.  

When you resubmit your script, it will be treated as a resubmission.

Approved Submissions
Once your script has been approved, you'll receive an email notification of approval.  Print or save to phone the approval email for your records and available at the tournament.  

Script Upload:

1. Upload files using this file name format - Last Name, First Name - Event. 

For example, "Smith, Jane - Duo Interpretive.pdf".
2. Please submit everything (submission form and script) in 1 file.
3. Upload your completed script submission materials to: Camelback Classic Scripts

Important: if you make any changes to your script after it has been submitted, you will need to resubmit your entire script package again before the deadline.

Parents

You will need to check in at the same time as your student. After confirming that both competitor and parent judge are present, the student will be able to compete.

We are blessed by the support of many community judges but you are the lifeblood of Camelback Classic! Your presence on campus and willingness to take ballots are essential. Check with Ballot Push 45 minutes before rounds to see if you are needed to take a ballot.

Please plan on judging every other round. Ballot Push will let you know each round whether or not you are needed.

Even though you will select specific rounds on your registration, please be flexible at the tournament. We want to prioritize community judges that have taken time out of their day to judge our students!

Greatest Need

Our greatest need is often the first and last rounds of the day along with ALL SPEECH rounds. Please do your best to be at the ballot table early so that all ballots can be pushed AND we can start the round on time.

Each registered student needs to have at least one of their own parents judging for them every day of the tournament. Thank you for your understanding and efforts to make Camelback Classic successful!

Lincoln Douglas (LD) Value Debate

We will have 6 prelim rounds, several outrounds with a final round.  We will have power matching and double ellimination in the outrounds.  

Resolved: Mandatory national service is justified

Statement of Purpose: The purpose of Lincoln Douglas Value Debate is to train Christian home school students in the skills of presentation, critical thinking, research, and analysis of basic values in an environment of honorable competition, to cultivate maturity, wisdom, grace, and poise, bringing glory to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Apologetics

For this tournament we will be using Apologetics questions from all Stoa categories.

Description: In Apologetics, the competitor is given four (4) minutes to prepare a persuasive and reasoned speech that defends a tenet of the Christian faith.

Goal: Competitors will be motivated to study, articulate, and defend the core issues of their faith in a knowledgeable, sincere, and respectful manner. The focus may or may not be evangelistic. Content is key: greater weight should be given to the speech content, rather than the presentation style.

We are very excited to be offering a Juniors' Tournament. This will be for students ages 8-12 only as of October 1, 2024.

Students may register for up to two different events. $15 per event.

JUNIORS APOLOGETIC QUESTIONS

BIBLE STORY IMPROMPTU EVENT

BIBLE STORY IMPROMPTU RULES

1. Each room will be given instructions regarding room administration as well as the envelope of topics to distribute to the student.
2. The speaker will pick three (3) single topics, choose one, and return the other two. The topics should not be returned to the envelope.
3. The competitor may edit or adapt the story in any way
4. The timekeeper will start the stopwatch when the speaker receives the topics. Thirty (30) seconds will be allotted to choose a topic.
5. The competitor will have two (2) minutes from the time the non-chosen topics are returned to the judges. The timekeeper will give auditory cues every thirty (30) seconds until the two (2) minute preparation time is concluded.
6. Unused preparation time may not be added to the speaking time.

JUNIOR BIBLE STORY IMPROMPTU PRESENTATION RULES:

1. Prep time: Two(2) minutes
2. Speaking time: Five (5) minutes
3. No minimum time. No student will be penalized for going over or under the suggested times.
4. The speaker may write notes on a blank sheet of paper during preparation time, but he may not use or refer to the notes during his speech.
5. The speaker may use a prepared note card during preparation time, but he may not use or refer to the notes during his speech.
6. The speaker may approach the topic in any way he chooses, but the topic must be the central theme of the speech and not peripheral to it.
7. The speaker may refer to his topic slip when announcing his topic during the speech. He/she may not write notes on the topic slip
8. Each speech should be a fresh, original presentation, developed from one of the topics given and prepared on the spot.
9. The speaker must state his topic early in the speech and adhere to the chosen topic.
10. No audio or visual aids or props may be used during preparation or presentationp

Junior Platform (Original Oratory, Persuasive, and Expository)

Junior Interp

Description: In Interp, the student creates an original rendition from a single selection of literature, which can be either dramatic or humorous. The student's original rendition should captivate, move, and/or entertain the audience.

Goal: To select and analyze literature, then bring it to life through the creative use of voice, movement, and facial expression.

JR Interpretation Preparation Rules:
1. Interpretive literature may come from a variety of published genres including plays or prose. The selection must be from a single work.
2. Media transcripts are not permitted. A “media transcript” is a pirated script or selection that has been transcribed by an individual from a live or recorded performance (theater, movies, television/radio broadcasts, webcasts, internet streaming, etc.).
3. The literature must be cut to fit within the time limit.
4. Approximately 150 words may be added for any purpose including but not limited to introductions and transitions.
5. Changes to pronouns and verb tenses are allowed and not counted as added words.
6. Dialogue from one character may be given to another character.

JR Interpretation Presentation Rules:
1. The speaker must identify the title and author near the beginning of the piece.
2. The speaker must compete in tournament attire.
3. No audio or visual aids or props may be used.
4. Only feet are permitted to touch the floor at any time.
5. Gratuitous vulgarity, while completely unlikely, is strictly prohibited.
6. This is primarily a speech event but some singing and dancing are permitted as appropriate to the piece.
7. The script must be memorized. No written scripts or notes may be referred to in competition rounds. However, if they are the competitor can be given a lower ranking within the round.
8. The timekeeper will start the timepiece when the speaker begins and will stop the timepiece when the speaker finishes. No hand signals will be given.

Speaking time limit–five (5) minutes. No minimum time.

A membership is free if you take three or more days to stay in the hotel for these prices listed above.  If there isn’t a membership, the reservation desk told me it could be $30-$40 more a night per room. I did tell them that we would need vacancy from March 4 to March 9. These were the three locations that I found that had vacancies she said the rest of their hotels around the surrounding areas do not have vacancy.
