Parli Debate Information
Rules
We recommend each team carry a copy of the 2024/2025 Parli Rules
Please also be familiar with the Stoa Evidence Philosophy and Standards.
Resolution Announcement
You must be in the Parli announcement room (which is the Student Room) five minutes before the scheduled start time for each round.
We are striking resolutions. Three resolutions will be read. Gov. has up to one minute to strike one, Opp. has up to 30 seconds to strike one. The resolution left is the resolution for the round.
Timing
Parli Debate will be self-timed, so please bring a working timepiece. Make sure the timer has an audible countdown alarm.
Christmas in the Ozarks
Extemp Info
If you are an Extemp competitor, Extemp must take priority in your schedule for the pattern it is in. If you are in other speech events, schedule your time so you do not miss your draw time. The times are fixed, and if you are late to the prep room, your prep time is shortened. Speaker positions cannot be switched or changed.
If you do not manage your time well with Extemp and do not leave enough time at the end of a pattern to complete your other events for that pattern, you may have to forfeit those events to keep the tournament running on time.
Students must accept full responsibility for the safety and security of their electronic devices during the tournament. Because the Extemp Prep Room is a competition room during other patterns in the tournament, you must clear your Extemp materials from the Prep Room after each Extemp round.
Tournament staff are not responsible for the devices at any time.
All electronic devices should be clearly labeled with the participant’s name and contact information.

Dress Code
Christmas in the Ozarks will be enforcing STOA dress code requirements. Any violators will be asked to be in compliance before they enter their next round.
Students must remain clean, neat, and modest throughout the tournament. This standard applies even if a student changes into casual wear.
Competition: During competition, students must dress in professional business attire.
Gentlemen: suits; slacks and a sports coat, with a shirt and tie, and dress shoes.
Ladies: skirt or pant suits; slacks, skirts or dresses with blazers; with professional dress shoes. Hemlines are to be at least to the knee. Note: Cardigans are not to be substituted for a blazer. Nylons are not required.
Awards Ceremony: We are waiving the Dress Code requirement for the Awards Ceremony, and everyone is invited to wear an UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER in lieu of the normal required attire.
Violations: If the competitor’s attire at any time during the tournament is deemed a violation of the dress code, the competitor will be asked to come into compliance with the dress code.
Compliance: A student will not be allowed to participate in competition without compliance.
