Parliamentary Debate Rules
We recommend each team carry a copy of the current Stoa Parli Rules.
Resolution Announcement
Parli pairings will be announced 5 minutes before the scheduled start time for each round. All Parli competitors must be in the prep room 5 minutes prior to each round.
Timing
Parli Debate will be self-timed, so please bring a working timepiece. Make sure the timer has an audible countdown alarm.
Internet
The church has some limited WI-FI access. It may not be speedy or robust. Should there be any unforeseen issues with the internet, you will have to rely on your own cellular connection and your own minds.
You will need to check in at the same time as your student. After confirming that both competitor and parent judge are present, the student will be allowed to compete.
In order to offer the best experience for our competitors and ensure that all of the judges are up to date with the yearly changes which occur on ballots and rules, we will be requiring that everyone who is judging (parents, community and alumni) attend a judge orientation session at least once per competition season. We will have orientation for all Judges before the first round and before rounds throughout the day.
Please plan on judging:
• At least 3 rounds
Each registered competitor needs to have at least one of their own parents onsite and judging for them for the duration of the tournament. We need judges to be available to make our tournament run on time. Thank you for your understanding and efforts to make Field of Mars successful!
Parent Meals
Coffee and simple light snacks will be available throughout the day for our judges.
We are not offering student meals so please plan accordingly.
