Located in the piney woods of East Texas, the Piney Woods Derby will offer all Stoa speech events, Lincoln Douglas, Team Policy, and Parliamentary Debate. Speech and debate event offerings may be subject to change. We are planning to offer Junior Speech: Platforms, Interps, Impromptu and Expos.

Hello, Mandy and I are so glad your family is planning to compete at the 2024 Piney Woods Derby.

We also thank you for your patience as we work through our new Stoa Hub system and the payment process for PayPal. The process described below allows you to make a payment for registration to CHEC, our homeschool coop. You can watch a video of this process here: https://youtu.be/cI5TeesU-8c.

How to Pay:

Log into Paypal and select Send.

Type in "checlongview@gmail.com" and select that account.

In the "What's this for?" field put in "PWD" and then type your name, so we can easily associate this payment with your registration. Type in your fee total. Click next.

Select payment method and confirm the details and click Send.

Once we have confirmed payment, I will mark the payment fulfilled on StoaHub.

Judges

Please plan to arrive about 45 minutes before your first scheduled round.

Drawings for prizes for community, parent, and alumni judges. Every round judged is an entry in a drawing. Judge a lot, earn more chances to win prizes. We will also have snacks and meals provided for you.

Student Registration

Registration is closed.

All fees must be paid in full by Nov. 1, or competitors may be dropped from events.

We will have 3 full rounds of speech and Juniors Speech events.

We have a waitlist in some events, please be patient. Students will be moved from the waitlist as space becomes available, in the order they registered.

This is a Stoa qualifying tournament, and membership in Stoa is required to participate.

The Piney Woods Derby will open on Thursday morning, Nov. 7, with rounds of Parli.

Speech events will have 3 preliminary rounds- followed by a Finals round. Events without enough competitors to warrant a Finals round will not go to a 4th round.
