What to Expect as a Judge:

You don't need any background in speech or debate! We're looking for thoughtful adults who can listen carefully and give students honest feedback. 

Before your round begins, you'll attend a 45-minute orientation. We'll walk you through what the students are doing, what to listen for, and exactly how to fill out the scoring form (ballot). Staff will be available throughout the event to assist you.

Meals and refreshments are provided throughout the day.

Your time commitment: 

Orientation, the round itself, and time to give written feedback.

  • Debate: about 2 hours total (round is 45 minutes) 
  • Speech: about 3.5 hours total (round is about 2 hours)

Your written comments are what students take home. We ask that you finish them and submit to tournament staff before you leave the campus.
