This status means the tournament is completed.
The Junior events are designed for students who are 5-11 years old on October 1, 2024.
Each event is $15.
Juniors may only compete in 2 events
Junior competitors are expected to “dress to impress” while competing.

Events & Rules
Juniors Platforms (This includes Informative and Persuasive speeches)
o Description: A Juniors platform speech is a prepared speech, written by the speaker, on a topic of the speaker’s choice.
o Goal: To develop a polished, winsome speaker who can present an engaging, well-organized speech on any topic.
Juniors Platform Rules:
1. The speaker may prepare a speech on any topic.
The purpose of the speech may be to inform, persuade, or entertain.
2. The speech must be an original work, written by the competitor. A maximum of approximately 30% of the speech may consist of quoted material.
3. The script must be memorized. No written scripts or notes may be referred to in competition rounds. (In other words, students may not improvise during their speech.)
4. No props or audio or visual aids may be used.
5. Speeches may not include any profane or vulgar language.
Speaking Time Limit– five (5) minutes. No minimum time.
Juniors Interpretation
o Description: In Juniors Interpretation, the student acts out a story from a single selection of literature, which can be either dramatic or humorous. The student's original rendition should captivate, move, and/or entertain the audience.
o Goal: To select and analyze literature, then bring it to life through the creative use of voice, movement, and facial expression.
Juniors Interpretation Preparation Rules:
1. Interpretive literature may come from any type of literature and should be edited to fit within the time limit.
2. A minor number of words may be added for any purpose including but not limited to introductions and transitions.
3. The speaker must identify the title and author near the beginning of the piece.
4. No audio or visual aids or props may be used.
5. The script must be memorized. No written scripts or notes may be referred to in competition rounds.
Speaking time limit–five (5) minutes. No minimum time.
Juniors Impromptu
o Description: The competitor will be given 2 minutes to prepare a speech on a topic chosen when they enter the competition room. The topic will be either one abstract concept, e.g."freedom" or concrete concept word, e.g. “farm". The competitor will give a speech no longer than 3 minutes with an introduction that contains a hook to get their listener’s attention, develop several main examples or points, and give a conclusion.
o Goal: The goal of Juniors Impromptu speech is to give the student an opportunity to form a simple speech quickly and efficiently.
Juniors Impromptu Rules:
1. The speaker will have 2 minutes of preparation time.
2. The speech should not to exceed 3 minutes.
3. Notes may not be used during the speech.
4. The speaker will receive three choices of topic and may choose the one they like the best.
5. Props and costumes are not permitted.
Preparation time – two (2) minutes. Speaking time – three (3) minutes. No minimum time.
Juniors Bible Storytelling Apologetics
o Description: In Juniors Bible Story Apologetics, the competitor chooses a story from the Bible stories listed below. The students know the full list but will not know the exact story they are to present until they draw and choose at the tournament. During the round, the student will have 2 minutes to prepare a speech relating that story and its importance to themselves. Their speaking time should be no longer than 5 minutes.
o Goal: To understand the values and techniques inherent in good storytelling and to be able to recreate stories for the education and enjoyment of the audience.
Juniors Bible Storytelling Apologetics Rules:
1. The speaker will have 2 minutes of preparation time.
2. Notes may not be used during the speech.
3. The Speaker will receive three choices of topic and may choose the one they like the best.
4. Props and costumes are not permitted.
Preparation time – two (2) minutes. Speaking time – five (5) minutes. No minimum time.

Junior Events do NOT require any script submission
Corpus Christi tournaments are known for their casual, friendly, and fun environment. But even more memorable is our traditional bonfire at the beach. Everyone is invited!
After the award ceremony, get dinner, change your clothes, and head out to Padre Island to relax after all the exertion of the tournament. You can bring swimwear (modest, please) and towels if you'd like to enjoy the water, chairs, marshmallows, sand toys, anything you can think of to make this a relaxing time of fellowship with other families.

JuniorsThe Coastal Clash will feature all Stoa speech events, LD, TP & Parli debates, and a Juniors Speech Tournament.
We will also have a Parent Parli exhibition and a tournament-wide beach bonfire ballot party!

***All judges' meals are provided at no extra cost to the families.
All fees must be paid by March 31 or competitors may be dropped from the events.
Refunds will not be issued once registration closes unless an event is canceled due to lack of participation.
