It is not easy to find Stoa Speech & Debate's policy on the use of AI. This TD is still looking. I do know there have been some forms that require competitors to declare that their speeches (slam poetry excepting) have not been composed by AI, but there is not a standardized rule or process that regulates this at the national level. But we are creating a policy for WSR, so please read on:
AI standards & penalties, applying to the following speech categories: OI, EXPOS, PERS & OO. If any submitted script from the aforementioned categories is found to be more than 10% AI generated by the AI-Checker Scribbr, the tournament director will convene members of the adjudication team. The following actions may be taken based on the counsel of a contingency of the adjudication team & the determined severity of the issue: a competitor may be banned from the entire tournament, banned from competing at this tournament from specific events, or may be assessed a rank drop penalty up to 7 places.
I know these are broad terms. We are blazing new trails as this technology develops. Please know that the overarching goals are to care for the hearts and minds of our competitors and, as much as we are able, to ensure a fair playing field for speech & debate competition.
