WHAT IS DECISION IN ROOM (DIR)?
- After the round ends the students will exit the room and wait for the judge to complete their decision and feedback.
- Judges will have two forms to help them organize their feedback.
- Speed Ballot: This is the official ballot for the tournament. The only information needed on this ballot is:
- ranking the debaters’ speaking scores and
- the decision about who won the round.
- Judge Feedback Form: This form helps judges work through the clashes in the debate and helps them give specific feedback to debaters about their decision. It is important that the teams and who won the debate be marked on this form.
- Speed Ballot: This is the official ballot for the tournament. The only information needed on this ballot is:
- Judges will have about 15 minutes to make their decision and fill out the speed ballot.
- Tournament staff will come to the room to collect the speed ballots.
- After the decision is made, please let the students waiting outside the room know. They will come back into the room for the judge to tell them the decision, give their feedback, and answer questions.
- If you would like the students to have the Judge Feedback Form, please turn it in to ballot push staff. They will make sure it is photocopied and placed in the competitors' envelopes so all the debaters can have access to the feedback.
